CRSS Modeling Enhancements to Support Long-Term Planning in the Colorado River Basin
Logan Callihan—Bureau of Reclamation
ABSTRACT

The Colorado River Simulation System (CRSS) model—developed and maintained by Reclamation's Upper and Lower Colorado Basin regions—is a comprehensive model that simulates the operation of major reservoirs on the Colorado River System. This model is used for long-term studies, policy exploration, scenario comparisons, and supplementary resource analyses—including the continued operations of Lake Powell and Lake Mead post-2026. As part of the Post-2026 technical framework, Reclamation is coupling the CRSS model, built in RiverWare, with the BORG MultiObjective Evolutionary Algorithm to quickly generate and test thousands of new operating polices. This presentation focuses on the associated CRSS model enhancements necessary to use BORG for this exploration.
