Special Attention Notes and Known Issues
The section describes special attention notes that indicate changes in functionality that require you to update models, cause model results to differ, or display a warning message when you first open a model in RiverWare Version 9.6.
If you have any questions, contact RiverWare Support:
CDSS Web Service DMI - Off by One Timestep
The “CDSS Surface Water Time Series - Day” web service DMI previously assumed the daily values were end-of-day values when they are actually beginning-of-day values. The result was that values were imported one day earlier than they should have been. For example, the 06/21/2020 00:00 value was imported at 06/20/2020 24:00. This issue was filed as RW-7218. With the fix, the value is now imported at 06/21/2020 24:00.
If you use the CDSS Daily DMI, this fix will change the timestep of the imported data and will likely modify model results.
See CDSS Surface Water Time Series - Day in Data Management Interface (DMI) for more information on this web service DMI.
CWMS Data API Web Service - Office Now Required
The CWMS Data API (CDA) web service was recently migrated from Version 1 to Version 2, which requires the USACE office in the query URL. This changes the schema of the returned JSON document. In addition. the web service version 2 now supports pagination where a large query is decomposed into multiple smaller queries.
The CWMS Data API web service now requires adding the USACE office to its configuration. If you use this web service dataset, please open each dataset and specify the appropriate USACE office.

Diversion Object: Pumping Energy Calculation was Incorrect
Issue RW-7231 was identified and fixed for a Diversion object using the Diversion Pump Energy category and Energy Equation and Cost user method. In this method, the computation for Energy Consumption was off by a factor of 3600 due to using seconds instead of hours. The resulting Total Energy Cost was also incorrect.
See Energy Equation and Cost in Objects and Methods for more information on this method.
Expression Slots in Script Actions
In RiverWare 9.5, expression slots could be silently removed from script action and DMI slot selections. This occurred when the slot selection used the filters to return expression slots. If you have these slot selections and opened and saved your model in version 9.5, 9.5.1, 9.5.2, or 9.5.3, please check your slot selections.
Heron Gain Loss Accounting Method:
In the Heron Gain Loss object level accounting method, a dependency was added on the FederalSanJuan account Storage slot. This was necessary to re-execute the method on timesteps when the Heron Inflow method changes the Slot Inflows earlier in the month. This change will lead to different results particularly on the FederalSanJuan account Gain Loss slot. The accounting storages should now reconcile with the physical storage.
See Heron Gain Loss in Accounting for more information on this method.
USGS Daily Values Web Service DMI Updates
The USGS Daily Values web service dataset was updated to the latest Application Programmer Interface (API) published by the USGS. The USGS will discontinue the previous APIat some point soon. The updates to the API include new query strings, returned document formats, pagination and API keys. For more information, see https://waterdata.usgs.gov/blog/api-whats-new-wdfn-apis/#introduction.
The following are key updates regarding the USGS Daily Values web service DMI:
• The base URL changed to: https://api.waterdata.usgs.gov/ogcapi/v0/collections/daily/items
• If you use Site Maps and Name Maps with wildcards to specify the locations and parameters, no changes are required. The query strings will be automatically updated in 9.6.
• If you use Name Maps to specify parts of the query, you will need to update the strings, For example, the new strings for location and parameter are:
– monitoring_location_id — USGS plus the eight-digit site location, E.g USGS-08313000
– parameter_code — data to return from the gage
• The USGS now provides 50 queries (i.e. slots) per hour per IP address without an API key. This is the default in RiverWare. If you need more than 50 queries, you will need to obtain a free API key from the USGS and specify it in the web service. See API Keys in Data Management Interface (DMI) for more information. With an API key, 1000 queries are allowed per hour per IP. The following figure shows the web service interface adn the new API Key controls
